Ask the U.S. Forest Service to Protect Hawk Inlet
The best available scientific data shows that the Greens Creek Mining operation has harmed Hawk Inlet and surrounding areas. Before a new decision process begins on the next tailings expansion, we urge the Forest Service to:
- Replicate the 1979-80 baseline studies to fully understand the implications of the Forest Service's actions concerning the Greens Creek Mine and its cumulative impacts to the marine and upland environments.
- Make Hawk Inlet a living laboratory where the best science, monitoring plans, and policies necessary to protect our fish, land, and people can be implemented to prevent the impacts of metal mining.
